To Persia, and back

Over three years in the UAE, and until four days ago, I hadn't visited a single country in the Middle East. So when a couple of friends mentioned heading out to Iran during the long Eid break, I leaped at the opportunity.

We travelled to southwest Iran, to the city of Shiraz in the Fars province. And what a marvellous trip it was! Unlike anything I've ever done before (but then I say that about all my journeys.) Will post vignettes in the days to follow. Stay tuned.

Hi Leela,
been reading your blog, esp your Kilimanjaro trip of last 2008. I am based in Dubai and planning to climb Kili this march...with less than 66 days to go... :-)

Any tips oh where to get a sleeping bag that can withstand low temperatures? i have managed to put together basic essentials, but still have a long way to go. I am doing this alone, with my guide and porter and cook, of course! But otherwise, i want to be alone on the cold and wet mountain...

any tips would be welcome...esp concerning diamox.
